Hartsville Author Sara Odom - Tomorrow!

On Friday, December 18, 2009
Burry Bookstore is hosting
an author meet and greet from 3:00 until 5:00 pm.
Author and Educator Dr. Sara Odom will be signing copies
of her new childrens book Precious Puddin'.

"When Gram first saw me, she leaned over and called me Precious, and then she gently added Puddin'. You know, like a first and last name, Precious Puddin'. That was that. I became known as Precious Puddin'."

Precious Puddin' is not an ordinary name, but Mary Hannah is not an ordinary little girl. Embrace a child's heartwarming discovery of the specialness of family love in Precious Puddin', the second book in Sara S. Odom's Gram's Tales series. Precious Puddin' will steal your heart as she learns the magic of endearments and passes on the bond to her baby brother.

Presently, Sara is a professor of education at Coker College where she teaches reading methods courses to prospective teachers. She is a native Hartsvillian who attended Hartsville area schools growing up. Sara taught in the public schools of Darlington County for twenty-five years. She would like to take this opportunity to invite former students to come by Burry's to say hello and catch her up on what they are doing these days. "Teachers always enjoy hearing the success stories of their former students," comments Sara, "and perhaps they may even want to buy a copy of Precious Puddin'. That would be a fun autograph!"

Ramblings Offers a Great Gift Idea for the Men on Your List

Ben McC. Moise will be signing copies of Ramblings of a Low Country Game Warden tomorrow - Friday, December 11th - from 3:00 until 5:30 pm!

From the book:
"Although I could hardly call it an obsession, I had pretty much wanted to be a game warden since my first encounter with one back in the mid-1950s. Every afternoon while delivering newspapers by bicycle in rural Sumter County, I stopped by a small country store along my route (a fore-runner of the 7-Eleven), owned by G. A. Thompson, a delightful and gregarious old gentleman. There I had the opportunity to listen to the adventures of a game warden who routinely arrived about the same time I did. Without fail he would buy a cold bottle of Coca-Cola, which he called a "dope," and a cellophane bag of salted peanuts. After taking a hefty swig of Coke, he would pour the peanuts and a sleeve of BC Powder into the bottle. There was no end to the stories he told as he variously shook, swigged, and chewed that amazing concoction."

Books with Plush Animals to Match from Sylvan Dell Publishing

Moose and Magpie written by Bettina Restrepo and illustrated by Sherry Rogers

It isn’t easy being a moose. You’re a full-grown adult at the age of one, and it itches like crazy when your antlers come in! In Bettina Restrepo’s Moose and Magpie, young Moose is lucky to find a friend and guide in the wisecracking Magpie. “What do the liberty bell and moose have in common?” the Magpie asks as the seasons begin to change. Then, when fall comes: “Why did the moose cross the road?” Vivid illustrations by Sherry Rogers bring these characters to life. Laugh along with Moose and Magpie, and maybe—just maybe—Moose will make a joke of his own!

The 6.5" soft, plush moose makes a great add on gift for a special friend.
