What Every South Carolinian Needs

South Carolina: A History -
Walter Edgar

In the first comprehensive history of South Carolina published in nearly fifty years, Walter Edgar presents a sweeping narrative of a state with an illustrious, sometimes infamous, past. He describes in very human terms 475 years of recorded history in the Palmetto State, including the experiences of all South Carolinians - rich and poor; male and female; those with roots in Africa and in Europe as well as Native Americans. In an eminently readable presentation, Edgar uses letters, diaries, and other writings to let voices from the past take part in telling the state's fascinating story.

Advice from Suze Orman

The Money Class:  Learn to Create Your New American Dream

What does it take to create your New American Dream? Suze Orman, the woman millions of Americans have turned to for financial advice, says it's time for a serious reconsideration of the American Dream--what promise it still holds, what aspects are in need of revision, and how it must be refashioned to fit our lives so that we can once again have faith that our hard work will pay off and that a secure and hopeful future is within our reach. In nine electrifying chapters,

Orman delivers a master class on personal finance for this pivotal moment in time. She addresses every aspect of the American Dream--home, family, career, retirement. She teaches us that in order to create lasting security we must learn to stand in our truth. We must recognize, embrace, and be honest about what is real for us today and allow that understanding to inform the choices we make. The New American Dream is not the things we accumulate, says Orman, but the confidence that comes from knowing that which we've worked so hard for cannot be taken away from us.

Orman teaches us how to take control over our present--right here, right now--in order to build the future of our dreams. Whether navigating the complicated mix of money and family, offering the most comprehensive retirement resource available today, or delivering a bracing dose of reality when it comes to recalibrating our expectations and our goals,

Orman educates us with her signature no-nonsense approach and laser-like clarity. She empowers us to live a life of integrity and honesty that will create an enduring legacy for future generations--a New American Dream that lies in truth, security, financial freedom, and peace of mind.

Tell Us Why You Like to Shop at Burry's!

Here is what Dee Pennington had to say:

"A trip to Burry's to shop for books is always a special treat. I just love the Southern fiction section and always find a new title or author to enjoy.  Burry Bookstore is also the place I shop when buying books for school.  Even if they have to order a book... there is never a problem finding a title I need, and it only takes a few days to arrive.  It is a pleasure to shop at Burry Bookstore... the ladies in the front are always willing to help and provide great service - always with a smile!"

Jodi Picoult's Newest Novel

For all of you Jodi Picoult fans - the wait is over.  Sing You Home was released yesterday!

"Every life has a soundtrack. "All you have to do is listen.

Music has set the tone for most of Zoe Baxter's life. There's the melody that reminds her of the summer she spent rubbing baby oil on her stomach in pursuit of the perfect tan. A dance beat that makes her think of using a fake ID to slip into a nightclub. A dirge that marked the years she spent trying to get pregnant.

For better or for worse, music is the language of memory. It is also the language of love.

In the aftermath of a series of personal tragedies, Zoe throws herself into her career as a music therapist. When an unexpected friendship slowly blossoms into love, she makes plans for a new life, but to her shock and inevitable rage, some people--even those she loves and trusts most--don't want that to happen.

Sing You Home is about identity, love, marriage, and parenthood. It's about people wanting to do the right thing for the greater good, even as they work to fulfill their own personal desires and dreams. And it's about what happens when the outside world brutally calls into question the very thing closest to our hearts: family.

Kids and Their Moms Have Great Things to Say About Burry's!

What's one of the busiest sections in our store?  The Childrens Area!  Not only do our youngest customers enjoy coming in and looking at books, they have a fun time at our play tables while mom and dad are browsing.

Here's what Lori Urbaniak-Griggs and her children think:

"My children and I love shopping at Burry Book Store. My son once said, "the people there are so nice and helpful...you just can't find that service everywhere!" I have to agree with him. The employees are always willing to help us find what we're looking for and we never go away empty handed!"
