Young Fredle - Cynthia Voigt

Young Fredle by Cynthia Voigt

Cynthia Voigt crafts a novel about discovery, perspective, and the meaning of home--all through the eyes of an affable and worried little mouse. Fredle is an earnest young fellow suddenly cast out of his cozy home behind the kitchen cabinets--into the outside. It's a new world of color and texture and grass and sky. But with all that comes snakes and rain and lawnmowers and raccoons and a different sort of mouse (field mice, they're called) not entirely trustworthy. Do the dangers outweigh the thrill of discovery? Fredle's quest to get back inside soon becomes a wild adventure of predators and allies, of color and sound, of discovery and nostalgia. And, as Fredle himself will come to understand, of "freedom."

Word of Mouth Advertising - Priceless

Here's what some of our customers are saying:

Rosanne Brasington
"I am from Darlington, but bring my grandson to a weekly appointment in Hartsville. My favorite pasttime while he is in his session is browsing and shopping at Burry Book Store. I like the cozy atmosphere of a local shop, and the courteous personal service. Burry will promptly order anything they don't have in stock. I like to give books for Christmas and birthdays and I got great discounts this year with my Super Shopper Club membership.  I look forward to shopping and saving at Burry for the rest of 2011."

Carra Honeycutt
"Burry Bookstore is always a fun place to shop. The service is always excellent because you care enough to give individual attention to everyone who enters your store.  Most of all, the prices on cards can not be beat.  If you do not have a book that I am looking for, you are willing to order it and have very fast service."

Nancy Nickles
"What a comfortable place!  Burry Bookstore has that inviting quality that seems all too infrequent in this day.  How refreshing to have people who are competent and courteous when asked to help!  Recently my son, Bond, was there to sign his children's book and remarked that that very atmosphere of warmth and the pleasant smell of books evoked memories of his earlier years in Hartsville and in Burry's.  Though the store has evolved it has maintained the special quality it has always had - a wonderfully warm atmosphere!  Thank you for being here for Hartsville!"

Customers are Talking!

Here are some recent comments customers made about Burry Bookstore.  Thanks, Kathy, David, and Catherine!

"What a wonderful town and pleasure it is to live in Hartsville!  Among all the amenities is our very own Burry Bookstore!  It is so great to come here to shop and to be greeted by clerks who are always smiling and know you by name, eager to help you with cards, books and gifts.  I totally support “our” bookstore in Hartsville." - Kathy McCall

"I've been shopping at Burry's so long it is like family when I enter with Lynn always letting me know about books that may catch my interest. Just lately she remembered that I like Archibald Rutledge and as a result of her suggestion I bought this book which I have enjoyed over the Holidays. She also ordered a special Bible of which only four were found and she was able to get it here in just a few days. She also suggested that I have it engraved, which she did right there in the store with a variety of lettering styles within 24 hours. My wife was very pleased receiving that on Christmas morning. Lynn and the staff know that I read to my children at bedtime and they always keep me informed of new authors and books that they know are suitable for my children and what subjects and style they like. My mother shops there often also so the whole family has benefited from the store for many years. Thanks, Emily, for always keeping the store in a friendly family atmosphere. See you soon." - David Moyd

"One of my most treasured gifts came today in the way of a gift certificate to Burry's. I love shopping there and I love the convenience of being able to shop via E-mail with Burry. I especially enjoy the Book Signing Luncheons and have attended many of them. I love the ladies who serve me when I go in...always greeting me with a 'hello Catherine'....always willing to help me find the book or books or any other item I am looking for. I would venture to say that Burry Bookstore is one of my very favorite places to shop in Hartsville. Many of the gifts I give throughout the year come from Burry's."- Catherine Pate

What's going on with Stone Barrington?

Strategic Moves - the new page-turning Stone Barrington novel from the perennially entertaining "New York Times" bestselling author Stuart Woods.

Stone Barrington is enjoying his usual dinner at Elaine's when his boss at Woodman & Weld, the law firm where Stone is "of counsel," walks in, sits down, and hands Stone a check for one million dollars. It seems Stone's undercover dealings with MI6 have brought in a big new client for the firm, and they're willing to pay Stone a huge bonus and make him a partner.

But almost as soon as he's taken the deal, Stone gets wind of an impending scandal that might torpedo his big promotion: It may be that the lucrative new client whom he's introduced to the firm might be a Bernie Madoff in disguise...

25% OFF Sale Today

Our Super Shopper Club Member Only Sale is today - January 18th - from 9:30 am until 6:00 pm.

We began our Super Shopper Club at the end of June 2010.  Since then we've had 265 people join.  The membership fee is $25 for individuals, $40 for families and membership lasts for one calendar year.  For instance, if you join today, your membership will be good through January 31, 2012.  Most members recoup their membership fee within the first month - just buy 3 hardback books and you've already done that!  Members also get to take advantage of days like today - 25% OFF all in stock regularly priced merchandise.  Plan ahead and save a lot!

Why did we start our Super Shopper Club?  To create a sense of loyalty among our customers.  In this day and time one would be hard pressed to find an independent bookstore that is flourishing.  There is so much competition from other sources.  However, we hear daily how disappointed customers would be if they couldn't shop at their local independent bookstore.  People have to realize that it's really up to them as to whether or not they will  be able to enjoy their independents, because their business is what's keeping the doors open.

I've said it before and I'll say it over and over again:

Your choice of where you shop today determines the shopping choices you will have tomorrow!

Seven Simple Principles That Will Change Your Life

Just released today - Glenn Beck and Dr. Keith Ablow  have collaborated to write the book
The Seven:  Seven Wonders That Will Change Your Life.

Radio and television host Glenn Beck has experienced the roller coaster of life like few others. From the suicide of his mother when he was just thirteen, to his eventual alcoholism, depression, divorce, unemployment, and health scares--Glenn has weathered life's darkest storms.

Any one of those struggles could've ruined him, yet Glenn was able to keep moving forward. He saw past the darkness into the light; past his grief and addictions and into what his life "could " be.

YOU CAN DO IT TOO

The process of finding happiness through personal redemption was not easy, but it left Glenn with a blueprint for how to confront future adversity. Glenn is living proof that these steps--he calls them "wonders"--don't just work on paper. They helped transform his life and can they can help to transform yours as well.

THE 7 WONDERS

Glenn Beck and Dr. Keith Ablow--two of the most popular and influential personalities in American media today--have joined forces to present a powerful guide to personal transformation and fulfillment that is as unique as their own unlikely partnership. They are called the "7 Wonders" and they can be used by anyone who has made the decision that they are ready to change their life.

After the television talk show host and the bestselling psychiatrist struck up a fast friendship they realized that their experiences with life's struggles were complementary. What Keith had studied, Glenn had lived. What Keith had counseled patients on for years, Glenn had suffered through for decades.

The deeply personal insights they shared brought them to realize that their life stories had seven key principles in common; seven wonders that seemed to be essential ingredients for anyone attempting to transform their life.

Where does the courage to persevere come from when everything seems hopeless?  How much do family and friendships matter in our journey? How do we break down our walls and reveal our inner truths? What does having compassion "really" mean? How do you tell "real" friends apart from those who are holding you back? If there's no one to blame for my past, what do you do with your anger and resentment?

These kinds of questions are the starting point toward fundamentally changing how you view past damaging relationships, toward breaking the debilitating grip of addiction and depression, toward injecting life with new meaning and purpose and toward helping you embark on a new journey based on hope, strength, and personal empowerment.

As you unwrap each of the seven wonders for yourself, you'll discover exactly what Glenn Beck found as he transformed his own life from darkness to light, from dead ends to endless possibilities, from addiction to freedom: it doesn't take a superhero to find the strength to change--it just takes the courage to take the first step.

This book, which was only possible by combining together decades of personal struggle with world-class professional experience, can be that first step for you.

"The 7 Wonders" grows out of a unique friendship that we've developed over the last five-years. It is unique because it brought together a psychiatrist who naturally burrows toward the truth, and a recovering addict who spent decades running from it.

As we spent more time together we began to let our guards down. Over time we reached a level of honesty with each other that is rare. As a result, we learned that the principles that have guided the well-honed healing techniques of one of us are precisely the same principles that "instinctively" guided the other to replace nearly unbearable pain with genuine happiness.
We believe that it was God's plan for us to meet; that it was God's plan for us to speak so openly with one another; and it was God's plan that we share with you the seven wonders we discovered together.

We also firmly believe that it was God's plan that this book now finds you at this exact moment in your life.

--Glenn Beck & Dr. Keith Ablow
